Tips & Tricks

  • Beds
Duvets, pillows and similarly light items can be easily packed into sleeping bags. Of course, they can then be used to fill all sorts of hollows spaces, e.g. in chests of drawers or cupboards that cannot be dismantled etc.
  • Movable parts
Fix with adhesive tape, e.g. drawers, sliding doors, hinged doors or shoe cupboards, doors with magnetic closures, loose parts in refrigerators (vegetable boxes, glass shelves) bar shelves (glass shelves, mirrors). Shelves should taped into easy-to-handle packages and brooms, curtain rails, umbrellas etc.tied together.
Always empty shelves and drawers, in particular pencil compartments because desks are often transported on their side. Empty sewing machines drawers or sewing boxes or stuff them with paper or other filling materials.
It is advisable to lock and tape closed doors of cupboard that are not to be dismantled to prevent them opening during transportation.
Do not leave keys in locks – see also “Key bag”.
  • Pictures
Picture frames, glass shelves, mirrors, glass or stone table tops are transported safely in variable picture cardboard boxes with bubble wrap covers. Marble and onyx slabs are sensitive to frost; please protect them with several layers of bubble wrap and place in variable cardboard boxes.
  • Flowers

  • Adhesive tape
Please always ensure that the adhesive tape is not directly affixed to sensitive furniture surfaces; instead, turn it around. First attach the tape to the reverse side of the piece of furniture, then twist (adhesive side upwards), then wrap the tape around the furniture twice (on the second circuit, twist back around again and affix the tape to the reverse of the furniture again). Use red tape bearing the wording “Caution: Glass” on fragile items.
  • Wardrobe boxes
Only fill with hanging clothes; do not place anything on the bottom of the box. Exceptions are light items such as hats, high lamp shades. Very tall vases, sculptures, plants etc. can also be placed in wardrobe boxes, but in this case, the bottom of the box must to be reinforced with adhesive tape.
  • Refrigerators
Don’t forget to defrost the freezer compartment of the refrigerator a day before the removal and remove all water. The same applies to freezers, see also “Freezers”. Drain all residual water, especially in American fridges that have an ice cube tray, particularly if frost is likely.
  • Lamps
All bulbs, tubes and shades should be removed from lamps and lights – see also “Lamp shades”-and packed separately.
  • Lamp shades
Lamp shades should be removed from the lamps and packed separately in removal boxes. There are special lamp shade boxes for large lamp shades. Slim, tall lamp shades e.g. vase lamps, can be also packed into wardrobe boxes, see also “Wardrobe box”.
  • New tenants
If you are happy with our work, recommend us to the new tenants, If they place an order with us, we will honour this with at least a “large bouquet of flowers”. It would also be good if you could give us the address or telephone number of the new tenant.
  • Plants
Water your plants about a week before the removal then not again until the removal is over. In frost periods, allow them to dry and talk to the removal consultant about frost proof packaging, e.g. in bubble wrap covers. Larger plants can be transported safely in wardrobe boxes; in this case tape the bottom of the box securely.
Place smaller plants and flowers in removal boxes. Leave the lid open if it will not close.

To protect them from breakage and frost, plants should be wrapped in e.g. bubble wrap. Cover the earth with aluminium foil. Drain all water from hydro plants.

  • Removal boxes
Boxes should only be packed up to a weight that you can carry easily. Boxes should be labelled on several sides if possible. Try and pack boxes for specific rooms e.g. bathroom, kitchen etc. Fill empty spaces with light items, such as towels, cushions, duvets, bathrobes etc.

Everything that fits into standardised removal boxes should be packed into these boxes; this avoids damage and saves time. Standardised removal boxes can be carried by the handles and stowed easily in the removal lorry.

Any of your own packing material should be closed on all sides. Heavy contents, e.g. books, bottles, records, tools etc. are best placed in book boxes.

  • Insurance
All the transported goods are insured by law. If you pack the boxes yourself, the insurance cover is limited. For more information, please ask our removal consultant.
